Common questions

Is my data safe?

All three tools run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your CSV files, income numbers, and tax data are never uploaded to any server. You can verify this by checking network requests in your browser's developer tools — there are none.

What's a 1099-DA?

Starting in 2025, crypto exchanges must report your gross proceeds to the IRS on a new Form 1099-DA. The problem: the form doesn't include your cost basis, so the IRS may think your entire proceeds are taxable gains. Our Audit Shield tool identifies these mismatches before the IRS does.

Do I need to report crypto if I only lost money?

Yes — and you should want to. Capital losses offset gains dollar-for-dollar. Net losses up to $3,000 can be deducted against ordinary income, with the rest carried forward. Use CryptoTaxPrep to calculate your actual gains and losses.

How is this different from CoinTracker or Koinly?

Those platforms handle complex scenarios like DeFi, staking, and cross-chain transfers ($49-199/year). If you only trade on 1-2 exchanges, our tools do the same Form 8949 calculation for $9. No subscription, no account, no ongoing cost.

When is the 2025 tax filing deadline?

April 15, 2026 for most filers. If you need more time, file Form 4868 for an automatic 6-month extension (to October 15, 2026). Note: an extension to file is NOT an extension to pay — estimated taxes are still due April 15.
